Artwork Description:
This nude portrait traces its origins to an academic study completed in Minsk, following the artist’s initial journey to America. Employing a warm ground and raw umber underpainting, Chiao layered transparent washes and impasto highlights to achieve a luminous finish. After settling permanently in America and being deprived of access to live models, he revisited and transformed these earlier studies, weaving memory and technique into new works.
