Artwork Description:
This naked portrait painting is based on the academic study of a nude created by the artist in Minsk upon return from first travel to America. The artist used warm ground and raw umber for underpainting, applied transparent paint to the background, and added impasto strokes atop raw umber underpainting to create an overall finished effect. Upon his second trip, the artist stayed in America permanently. Lacking new opportunities to paint live models he simply reworked his previous studies from Minsk to create new paintings.
