When Chiao’s family emigrated to America, they left behind only a tract of land and an abandoned house in Yachnoje. The artist often reflects on the haste and lack of preparation that led to the loss of their Belarusian heritage. In this work, he envisions the small palace that might have risen in Yachnoje, a symbol of the strength and prosperity that might have flourished had their ties to Belarus endured.
